Historical Resources Commission appointments
Fourteen residents were lined up to interview for five regular seats and two youth seats on the Historical Resources Commission, which advises the city on preserving historic buildings and neighborhoods. The subcommittee also planned to create an eligibility list for future openings.
Council liaison assignment equity and rotation
The council is rewriting how it hands out seats on regional boards like the fire JPA, ABAG, CCAG and the airport round table. Longer-tenured members worry rotation will cost the city seniority and chair positions; newer district members say the current system leaves their constituents without a voice on bodies deciding things like freeway expansion.
State housing law limits on local review
Commissioners repeatedly noted that the Housing Accountability Act, SB 330 and AB 130 strip local discretion over density, height and parking for housing projects, leaving the commission limited to objective standards.
Removal of the South Amphlett Boulevard billboard
The old print billboard on the 600 block of South Amphlett has bothered the Central neighborhood for roughly 40 years, according to residents who spoke. State law allows a relocation deal — remove the old sign, put up a digital one elsewhere — and council members signaled support for exactly that trade.
Glazenwood Historic District Recognition
Glazenwood residents asked the council to formally grandfather the neighborhood's historic district status before the new Historic Preservation Ordinance is finalized. The council approved agendizing a future discussion item.
